A Royal Occasion

So, the big day is finally upon us.  All that build up, all the column inches, dress speculation and union jack inspired paraphernalia will slowly die down to leave us with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  It really was beautiful.  However, for someone who isn’t really a follower of royal goings on I found myself more engrossed than I anticipated in this romantic fairytale.

I am not anti-royal family by any means.  I just don’t follow them, know who some of them are etc.  So, when Wills and Kate announced their engagement a little part of me thought, ‘So what?’  How little I knew!

As the big day drew closer I got more and more excited.  I didn’t really know why either, being neutral towards the royal family had led me to think I was neutral towards the wedding so what exactly changed?  Two words…Kate Middleton.  She had captured the nation, she had captured me.  For every girl who had ever dreamed of being a princess (that is all of us, right?) she was making it come true.  Before our very eyes Kate became Catherine.  A normal girl (ok, she was slightly better off than most!) has captured the heart of a Prince.  Wow.  Fairytale.

I woke up at 10.30 today, (the royal wedding day!) in perfect time to watch the royal wedding cars arrive and for Kate to walk into the Abbey.  Of course, I made my morning brew to watch the ceremony – very British!
I didn’t really care about the location, the countless guests, the crazy array of fascinators – I cared about watching her become a Princess.  Watching her marry the man she loves and live the fairytale, making every girls dream a beautiful reality.  She looked so pretty, composed and natural, taking the events of the day in her stride.  And don’t even get me started on those two kisses! For me the royal family has just got more interesting and I am so pleased that a ‘normal’ person has been welcomed into the fold.   Goodbye Kate, hello Princess Catherine.

So girls, which one of us will catch Harry’s eye?

Who made beauty beautiful?

Beauty.  Weird thing really.  Who decides something is beautiful?  Surely it is in the eye of the beholder?  Whoever said that hit the nail on the head.  I like to think, in as non cheesy way as possible, that everything holds beauty.  And why shouldn’t it?  Why is something being ugly such a negative connotation?  If we all liked the same things how boring would the world be?  If beauty only came in one form wouldn’t we all be chasing the impossible?  An object, person or anything can be made beautiful depending on how you choose to view it.

Which brings me to my blog.  Before I put finger to keypad I planned out how I wanted my blog to be.  Not in a ‘I will plan my posts week by week’ kind of way, but I wanted to really think about what type of blog I wanted, what topics I wanted to cover and with everything I wanted to write about, beauty is a recurring theme.

I want to bring you reviews of my favourite and fabulous beauty products, I want to share with you my thoughts, dreams and achievements, I want to show you my projects, all of which I think show beauty.  Whether it is the latest product I am putting in my hair, to the flowers I am planting in my garden, everything contains beauty.  Sadly, we seem to live in a world full of negativity and people bringing each other down, whereas we should be celebrating each other and being positive.  What one person finds beautiful, another could find unattractive but sharing our outlook on life and having a difference in tastes and opinions is what makes us unique.  And isn’t that the most beautiful thing of all?

Home Sweet Home

2 months ago to the day me and my boyfriend took a big step in our relationship and moved in together.  After 5 years together it was the next logical step – plus it wasn’t easy living in with our parents and spending weekends at his – I felt like I was always living out of a bag and going back and forth.  Not fun.  So when a property became available to us we just had to take the plunge.

When finding out about the property, the first box ticked was it was a house, which is something we had decided we wanted rather than a flat.  Next it was in an area we love – tick.  It has a drive – tick.  Garden – tick.  Then came the icing on the cake, it use to have 3 bedrooms, now it has 2 and the 3rd bedroom has been knocked through into the main room to make a walk in wardrobe.  Giant tick.  If they had told me that first I would have been sold there and then.

Last weekend my wardrobe was completed.  My clothes which had been in boxes for nearly two months let out a sigh of relief and I think I saw some of my shoes smiling when they met their new home.  I have a confession – I do have loads of clothes.  Perhaps too many.  Wait a minute, you can never have too many clothes.  Some items are still tagged, however, I will wear them, they just need to make their debut!  More about my wardrobe (with pictures!) in a future post.

There is still so much to do in the new house but I am loving every minute of it, I look forward to showing you some pictures and sharing my experiences and projects with you.

And so it begins...

First of all, thanks for stopping by.  The first blog post is the hardest, I mean, people start blogs every day for pretty much the same reason.  To write about a subject of interest and have other people read it.  Hence why the first one is the hardest.  I know my blog will be about all things beautiful but am bursting with ideas, thoughts and creativity. Which all deserve their own post in their own right, so I guess rather than tell you all about my beautiful things, I will tell you about me.

My name is Amy, I am 25 and live in Manchester.  Not in the city centre, in a village just outside of it which I think gives me the best of both worlds.  I can get all of the hustle and bustle of city centre life and then slip home to my house surrounded by fields, freshness and space…bliss.  I love being creative.  I love writing, crafts, singing, dance or anything which gives a way of expressing myself.  I am not the best singer or dancer by a long way, even a fraction, however, I love feeling happy and expressing myself whether through my work every day, my singing in the car, dancing around my house – just feeling free.  This is one of the reasons I wanted to start this blog.  A platform for my thoughts.  A place of expression.  My words can come to life through my every day musings.  This is a happy place.

So with all that said – welcome!  I hope you enjoy the ride.
